Nepal’s education needs drastic change – UGC chair Subedi

Kathmandu, June 12: Chairperson of the University Grants Commission Professor Dr Bhim Prasad Subedi has said that it is necessary to make a drastic change in the education sector of Nepal.

At the closing ceremony of a five-day workshop which was jointly organized by the University Grants Commission and Mangal Multiple Campus Kirtipur, he said “Nepal is still stuck with the teaching and learning methods whereas there has been a drastic change in the education sector in the world.” He said, “Nepal’s education needs drastic change and we also need to be competitive.”

He emphasized the necessity of education based on research and articles based on research in various fields for the development of education.

Talking about the allocation of up to 15 per cent budget in developed countries for the development of the education sector, he demanded the government of Nepal for increasing the education budget in the coming years.

He said that the commission was ready to provide all possible financial assistance to the researchers who were going abroad for research work and research articles.

Chairman of the Mangal Multiple Campus Steering Committee Professor Dr Laxmi Bahadur Maharjan, Workshop Coordinator Professor Dr Shyam Krishna Maharjan and Campus Chief Pradip Maharjan urged the trainees to put into practice the knowledge learned in the workshop.

In the workshop, training was given on how to analyze qualitative and quantitative data by scientific method.

20 lectures from different colleges were trained by 15 experts including former Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Professor Dr Hira Bahadur Maharjan, said campus coordinator asst professor Siddhi Bahadur Maharjan.

At the event, Professor Dr Ramakrishna Maharjan, Professor Dr Dharma Raj Dangol, Professor Dr  Shiva Sharan Maharjan, program facilitator Rocky Maharjan and others were presented.
