Functions
- Formulating and reviewing of library policies and long-term planning. This involves suggesting strategies to enhance library services, resources, and facilities to meet the changing needs of the campus.
- Planning and negotiating the acquisition of materials, Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests, stacks maintenance, overseeing fee collection, event planning, fundraising, and human resources.
- Ensuring that the library has adequate funding to meet its operational needs, including staff salaries, collection development, and facility maintenance.
- Hiring, training, and supervising library staff, and ensuring that they have the resources and support to carry out their duties.
- Advising on collection development, suggesting materials and resources that will cater to the interests and informational needs of the library’s users. Ensuring the library’s collection is well-balanced, diverse, and up-to-date.
- Promoting the library’s services and programs within the campus, community, encouraging public participation and engagement. Suggesting new outreach initiatives to reach underserved or specific user groups.
- Advocating for the library, raising awareness about its importance and impact on education, research, and community development.
- Collecting feedback from library users and staff regarding services and operations. Based on this feedback, they can evaluate the effectiveness of current practices and recommend improvements.
- Providing insights into adopting and implementing new technologies that enhance library services, streamline processes, and improve user experiences.
- Exploring opportunities for collaboration with other institutions, organizations, or agencies to expand the library’s resources, services, and expertise.
- Assessing the library’s performance and impact periodically, comparing it against set goals and objectives.
